The project
Magnetic South engaged Woongal Environmental Services to undertake pre-clearance environmental surveys ahead of planned vegetation clearing activities. Following the surveys, Woongal provided Fauna Spotter Catcher (FSC) services during clearing operations, working alongside the dozer operator to identify and safely relocate fauna where required. This approach helped identify fauna habitat and potential constraints before disturbance commenced, while ensuring native fauna could be safely managed throughout the clearing program.
Outcomes
Key outcomes included:
- Environmental risks and habitat features identified before clearing activities began
- Native fauna safely managed and relocated where required by Woongal Rangers
- Real-time capture of fauna observations, relocation records and spatial data by Woongal Rangers using our GIS field data collection system
- Improved traceability and reporting through accurate spatial records of fauna management activities throughout the clearing program
- Support for compliance with environmental approvals and clearing requirements through pre-clearance surveys and ongoing FSC supervision
