The project
Woongal carried out cultural heritage burns on Sojitz site, working with both Sojitz and Lumburra Bimbi, the CH body for the Western Kangoulu people to ensure CH was protected. The burns used planned, low-intensity fire to reduce fuel loads and protect cultural heritage artefacts, including scar trees from bushfire risk.
Outcomes
Key outcomes included:
- Reduced fuel loads and lowered bushfire risk around scar trees and other cultural heritage artefacts
- Protection of significant cultural heritage through carefully planned, low-intensity burning
- Improved condition of native vegetation and habitat following burn treatments
- Work delivered on Western Kangoulu Country with respect for the values held there
